The blog has been quiet lately because we have all been under the weather over here. Last Friday evening Claire had a fever of about 101, but was playing and having a good ol' time, so I figured it was teething. After a rough night, she woke up Saturday with a 103.6 fever! Poor baby girl! She has never been sick (other than a cold) and this was our first time as parents to see her so miserable. Kev took this pic with my phone on Saturday morning.
She laid on us all morning and fell asleep with me on the couch. That NEVER happens y'all! She is always on the go! By lunchtime she wasn't eating or drinking and the fever was still high. I texted some of my mommy friends for advice and thanks to some awesome friends we decided to take her to a special doctor's office just for kids that is open when most doctors are closed. Perfect since it was Saturday! Claire perked up a little bit when we got there and even got to bring her paci, which is usually only for sleeping, but poor thing was miserable!!!
Turned out she had an upper respiratory infection that led to her first ear infection.
We took it easy all day Saturday and then Sunday she woke up feeling slightly better....
but then I came down with it Sunday night and was miserable all day Monday. Claire was still sick, but was definitely on the go and keeping up with her was quite the challenge for me that day.
Next, it was Kevin's turn. He has it now and I am hoping he's on the tail end of it because his birthday is tomorrow!
Claire is feeling much better now! I was so grateful that I could clear our schedule and we could spend 5 days at home resting, playing and getting better without spreading any germs to anyone and letting her get the time she needed to feel better. Taking care of her while I was sick was no walk in the park, but Kevin was able to go into work a little late that day, which made the biggest difference! Today was our first day back in our regular routine and it was great to get out of the house again and let Claire see her friends and play.
In other news, I just had to share this snapshot I took with my iPhone. Look at what a big girl she is! She wasn't feeling good and I really wanted her to try and eat, so I thought she might enjoy eating her snack at the table and sure enough she did! It works in a pinch, but I'm nowhere near ready to let go of the high chair yet!
It's so easy to take for granted how blessed we are that Claire is healthy the majority of the time. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for parents whose children are seriously sick and in the hospital for days, weeks and months on end. Of course it was noooo fun for us to be sick, but it was a good reminder to be thankful for our health on all the good days we are so fortunate to have.
