Clark waking up on Day 3.
The birthing center where we delivered (or rather where we tried to get there in time to deliver) has the nurse come to our home to do the 3 day check up for Clark and I. This is the day that we would be released from the hospital if we had a hospital birth, so instead they come to us and go over all the things you would normally do before you have your final discharge from the hospital. It is so nice to have them come out to us and check on us since we weren't really ready to leave the house yet.
Kristen came and checked on me and visited with us to see how things were going with nursing, healing, etc.
She also did Clark's heel prick and weighed him to see how he was doing.
He only had a 4% weight loss and up to 10% is normal, so that was great news!
By this time we could tell that Clark had the same tongue and lip tie that Claire had and we were already scheduling oral surgery for him, I was pumping and super thankful colostrum was flowing and we could bottle feed him when he couldn't latch for a complete nursing. I had already baked up 6 dozen lactation cookies and rented a Medela Symphony pump from our lactation consultant. We did everything possible to establish a good milk supply within those early days and I really think it helped. It was such a relief to know exactly what was wrong and have the knowledge and experience to immediately get it corrected! Next post will be about Clark's oral surgery. He was amazing and such a trooper, just like his sister!
