Oven Baked French Toast Recipe: Ivory Creek B&B

So, here it is!  The best french toast you will ever have!!!  I am soooo glad the fabulous husband and wife of the Ivory Creek B&B shared this recipe so that we can make it here at home!  There is noooo way I could wait until we go back to Massachusetts to have it again!  This is a great breakfast for special holidays, birthdays or when you have friends and family visiting from out of town!  Without further ado...here it is!

Oven Baked French Toast

3 large eggs

1 1/2 cups whole milk

1 cup half-and-half

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 loaf of firm Italian bread

In a mixing bowl, combine all of the above ingredients except the bread.  Cut bread into six slices each measuring approximately two inches wide.  (There will be some left over bread from the loaf).  Butter the six slices on both sides and place in a 9 x 12 greased baking dish.  Pour the egg/milk/cream mixture over the bread.  Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Approximately 1.5 hours before you wish to serve the French Toast, prepare a topping by mixing:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

2 Tablespoons maple syrup

Remove the baking dish containing the bread/egg mixture from the refrigerator.  Top the bread with topping!

Bake at 375 degrees approximately 1 hour until puffed and golden.  (It smells sooo good!)

Serve with any variety of toppings including whipped cream, fresh bananas, fresh sliced strawberries or peaches, fresh pineapple, sugared pecans, etc.  May make ahead and reheat before serving - 6 large servings.  *We thought it was even better the next day when we reheated it in the oven!  Yummy!

If you make it, you have to email me, facebook message me or leave me a comment and let me know if you liked it as much as we did!   I hope you do! :)
