Sharing the News...Part 2

Part 2- Telling the Soon to be Grandparents and A Gift From a Friend.... (this is LONG!)

So, as soon as we knew we were pregnant, the first thing I wanted to do was tell our parents and then tell the rest of the world.  As much as I wanted to tell our moms over the phone immediately, and as difficult as it was to talk to them all the time without even mentioning it, my friend had convinced me that this was the kind of news that we just had to share in person.  She told me that she would never forget the look on her mom's face and that was something that I just couldn't miss by telling them over the phone.

Our parents live about 4 hours away and every weekend was booked with something on the calendar.  As luck would have it (who am I kidding...it wasn't just luck, it was God's perfect timing) Father's Day was only 2 weeks away and although Kevin was in a wedding the Friday & Saturday of that weekend, Sunday was clear and Monday was the only day that month that we didn't have any appointments scheduled at the office!!!  WOO-HOO!!  This was it!  We had finally found a time to share the news!  We wanted to surprise both parents and just show up, but this proved to be more difficult than expected since we weren't coming into town until Sunday and Monday was a work day.  Since Kevin's step dad was out of town until Sunday night we decided we would tell my parents Sunday and then Kevin's parents on Monday!  So how did we do it.....it took some creativity!

To make sure my parents would be home on Sunday we told them that they should be expecting a delivery between 12 and 2 and that they HAD TO BE HOME to sign for it!  "Perfect!"  We had them locked down!  Next we had to find a way to make sure Kevin's parents would be available on Monday so we told them that we were surprising my dad for Father's day (and not to tell him) and that we wanted to spend Monday with them if they could get off work early!  It all fell into place and we were on our way to Austin to share the news!!!  By the way...we were at the wedding the night before we left for Austin, which was a blast, but we didn't get home until midnight!  We were totally wiped out, but it was so worth it to head to Austin the next day!

Next came the decision of how to tell them.  Should we just come out and say it or be creative and find a way to tell them that would create a special memory for them to hold on to forever???  We put our heads together and borrowed some cute wording that my friend Laura used to tell her parents when she was pregnant and this is what we came up with!

The front of the card says, "There is something we want you to know before it starts to show..."
And the on the inside is our "Bun in the Oven" photo...

This was a great way to share the news!  I think my mom took this card everywhere and showed everyone she knew!  I know she took it to her chiropractor and I thought that was hilarious!

Being able to share this news with our families on Father's Day Weekend so special and meant the world to us for several reasons.

1-seeing the expression on my Dad's face when I told him he was going to be an Opa and then later hearing him tell me that this was his best Father's Day ever will always hold a special place in my heart

2-this was also a very special day for Kevin knowing that he was going to become a daddy and this time next year he would be holding our baby!  I got him an awesome book I would recommend to ALL new and expectant Fathers!  It is HILARIOUS and full of VERY USEFUL information.  He says he will be referring back to it as a reference throughout the pregnancy and after the baby is born! :)
It is called BE PREPARED, A PRACTICAL HANDBOOK FOR NEW DADS.  I am going to read it too because it has such great info in it!

3-my friend was right...seeing the expression on my mom's face was priceless!  She hugged me so tight I had to tell her not to squeeze so much...it was sooo cute!  I wish I had it on video!

4-Kevin's parents took us out to dinner to celebrate the next night.  We had mexican food at our one of our favorite restaurants in Lakeway!  It was a short trip and we wish we could have spent more time with both sides of the family, but it was just long enough to share the news and get back to work the next day.

All in all, I wouldn't trade it for the world.  Both parents are so excited and looking forward to the little grandbaby that is on the way!  We keep praying the baby is growing healthy and strong!  Tomorrow will be 12 weeks!!!! :)

My friend Laura was actually the first person to know that we were pregnant!  I had been texting her from Wisconsin telling her about my symptoms!  She was just going crazy waiting for me to take a test!  When I finally did she could hardly wait for the results!  I told her at 8:00 am that morning and by lunchtime she surprised me with this basket, card and bouquet of flowers!!

How sweet is that???  I have no idea how she pulled it all together so fast, especially since she has a 14 month old!  Obviously she knew exactly what I would be needing!  I have used and enjoyed every single thing in this basket!  It was so kind and thoughtful and I will never forget it!  Thank you Laura!  It is a true blessing to have a friend like you in my life! :)  I am sure that Baby Viehbeck will love his/her Aunt Laura so much! :)
