Dear Clark,

Happy 3 Months My Sweet Baby Boy!

DSC_1747

You have been busy this month!  Among your top accomplishments are rolling from your back to both your left and right sides AND rolling from your stomach to your back.  You did all of this at only 11 weeks old, oh my!  The only roll you haven't attempted is from your back to your stomach, but I am sure it won't be much longer now.

You are also grabbing and holding some toys now!

You have been so busy with all your new skills that you must have forgotten about the importance of sleeping at night!  Weeks 9-11 you were up 3-5 times a night!  By week 11 is was always 5 times a night and I thought maybe you were having your 12 week growth spurt early, but here we are two weeks later and you are still going!  Only now it has gotten worse.  The past week after you nurse in the middle of the night, you have high pitched screams and you kick your legs and it can take over an hour to get you back to sleep.  I think we are getting less sleep now that we did when you were a newborn.  I have taken dairy out of my diet to help with your eczema and today I am also eliminating wheat to help you with what seems to be gas and stomach issues.  Daddy is adjusting you, we are doing stretches with you and I am also taking a probiotic and even with all that you only have a bowl movement every 6-10 days!  The few days leading up to it you have really rough nights, but you are just fine during the day.  It seems to really upset you and cause a lot of pain, but only at night.  I wish I knew why the nights are so much harder for you.  We let you sleep in your swing, just like at nap time, but we have tried the crib too, and many nights you end up sleeping in my arms.  Either place ends in the same result. :(

While you may not have excelled with your nighttime sleeping, you have been a great napper and developed a nice, consistent routine.  You nap around 9am and 1pm, for about 2 hours each nap.  You sometimes take a 30 minute cat nap in the evenings.  Just like your sister did, you have to have motion to fall asleep and you sleep in your swing.  We turn it off after you have your 45 minute sleep cycle and then you continue to sleep without it moving.

You have grown SO much this month.  I think you will be too heavy for the swing to rock you to sleep within a month or two. (oh no!)  I thought you looked longer so we measured you and you have grown TWO INCHES in the last 4 weeks! WOW!  Your head is also .75 inches bigger too!

You just moved up to a size 2 diaper and are still wearing your 0-3 month clothes, although you are already too long for a couple of your sleepers.

You smile all the time and we can get some really good laughs out of you during the day.  When you and Claire are in the backseat of the car you usually stare at her with admiration and love!  You always smile at her and welcome her big hugs and kisses!

clark!

You have become a SUPER efficient nurser! Each nursing session is only about 5-8 minutes and that is it!  If I try to get you to have more you cry and turn your head letting me know you are done!  WOO-HOO, that is fine with me!  We have so much more time to go and do things now, and nursing in the car is quick and much easier when Daddy and Claire are waiting for us!  You eat every 3 hours during the day, and lately the nights are just an all you can eat buffet...it seems to be the only thing that keeps you from crying {sigh}.  I am getting used to being so tired.  I can't really remember what it feels like to be rested anymore, so this is kind of the new normal.  This too shall pass, and one night, one night you will sleep through the night, or at least a 5 hour stretch...that would be wonderful!

That reminds me... you do not like a pacifier.  We have tried and tried in hopes that it will help you sleep but you just don't want anything to do with it.  I have now decided this is a blessing because we won't have to take it away later!  You also never liked to be swaddled, so we won't have to take that away either.  While in the long run this will make things easier, I do think it makes these early months a little more difficult.

You took your first ride in the stroller...or stretch limo as I call it without being in your carseat and you loved it so much you fell asleep while your sister and I were riding the carousel at the mall.

I just love your beautiful blue eyes!  I could stare at them all day.  I wonder if they will stay blue?  We can't believe we might have 2 blue eyed kiddos since we have hazel and brown eyes.  I think they will stay, but either way they are just gorgeous!
