I bet you didn't know...

I bet you didn't know about my dreams of competing in the 2002 Winter Olympics!  Obviously, it was just a dream, but it was one of the best dreams of my life!  I absolultly loved the feeling of skating on the ice with the cold wind against my face!  It was a place of true happiness and joy!  My mom was amazing to take me to lessons before school EVERY morning at 4:30 AM!  I can never thank my dad enough for working so hard to find ways to afford the very expensive sport of figure skating!  Ice time, coaches, lessons, ice skates, competitions, skating outfits...it all adds up very, very fast!

To this day I have a special place in my heart for ice skating.  I am so very thankful for that time in my life. I loved it so much!  There are 10 Freestyle levels set by the United States Figure Skating Association that you must achieve before getting to the olympic level and I was proud to get to level 4!  I was working towards level 5 when I realized just how much of a sacrifice it would be to go all the way.   At that time I had skating friends who were considering moving out of state to train with well known coaches and withdrawing from public school so they could dedicate their lives completely to skating and attend school at the skating rink.  In 7th grade I left the rink, but I never left my love for the sport!

In fact, my ice skates are in my car right now and I am planning to go to new rink here in McKinney and give it a try again.  It has been about 10 years since I was on the ice!  Can you imagine that!  This is going to be scary...but it should be fun too!  I can't wait to watch the women's figure skating in the Olympics!  SO MUCH FUN!!!!

I love this post! I did know about it but I really enjoyed seeing the pictures! I tried taking ice skating lessons when I was five and I'm pretty sure I failed the class...I remember getting a note saying they couldn't move me up to the next level...haha :)
